Intensive S-CAT® Program
This popular and comprehensive, research-based, social communication evaluation and treatment program is designed for children, teens, and adults who are having social communication challenges such as selective mutism, social anxiety, extreme shyness and social communication (pragmatic) disorder, etc.
Available in either a single-day or multi-day format, this program uses Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum’s research-based methodology of Social Communication Anxiety Treatment® to provide a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s social communication challenges, including contributing factors and/or co-occurring challenges. Based on this assessment, the clinician will recommend tailored strategies, tactics, and school-based accommodations. Treatment will begin on the same day as initial evaluation. Following the initial session, families will receive a very detailed step-by-step written treatment plan with proven techniques to implement at home, the real-world, and within the school setting.
Following the initial single or multi-day S-CAT evaluation, families are seen for follow-up consultations approximately every 3-4 weeks. Continued care also can include consultations directly with the school staff.
For the family seeking professional therapy without entering the Intensive S-CAT Program, we offer the option of a traditional therapy track. One of our trained clinicians will work with you to evaluate and treat your loved one for a range of social communication-related issues. Note that while these therapy sessions make use of S-CAT treatment principles, they do not include the full S-CAT program components such as the length of time in the Center and the detailed step by step written treatment plan.
Please contact our center (215-887-5748) to schedule an appointment and/or receive more details about the S-CAT Program or traditional psychotherapy.
As a specialty medical practice, the SMart Center does not accept medical insurance plans. In our experience, these health plans may not necessarily provide the most comprehensive care. Our professional services are considered out-of-network with all insurance providers.
For families with out-of-network coverage, we are happy to provide receipts to submit to their insurance companies for possible reimbursement. It is the family’s responsibility to work with their insurance provider to see if S-CAT® Intensive Individualized Treatment, Therapy Track, and Follow Up appointments are eligible for possible reimbursement based on their specific plan. Please click here to determine coding for treatment services. *
We suggest families contact their insurance carrier and inquire about out-of-network coverage, any deductibles that must be met, whether they need a letter of medical necessity from their child’s pediatrician, or any limitations on coverage.
*It is the patient’s responsibility to directly contact their insurance company prior to an appointment. Our staff will make a billing code change to the initial consultation receipt.
