Are you a parent of a child between the ages of 4 and 12 who has been diagnosed with:

  • Selective Mutism (SM)

       OR

  • Both Selective Mutism and Autism Spectrum Disorder (SM+ASD)?

If so, we invite you to participate in a brief, anonymous online survey that takes just 6–8 minutes to complete.

This research study explores how children with SM and/or ASD experience the world through their senses—how they respond to sound, touch, movement, and balance. Your insights will play a vital role in helping researchers better understand sensory processing differences and ultimately develop more effective support and intervention strategies.

💡 Why participate?
Your experience can help shape future care and make a real difference in the lives of children with SM and ASD.

Thank you for considering being part of this important work! Share this survey with other parents with our flyer!

Meet the Researcher

My name is Zoe Nelson. I grew up with Selective Mutism and spent years unable to speak in school or most social settings. It was lonely and overwhelming at times, but I want parents to know to continue being an advocate for your child, help them find the right support, and it will be okay. With the right support, I overcame my anxiety and am now completely verbal in all settings. Because of my personal experiences, helping children with similar struggles has become my greatest passion.

I’m currently a psychology student at Drexel University, a Clinical Assistant, and a CommuniCamp™ Counselor at the SMart Center in Jenkintown, PA. I am conducting my senior thesis on sensory sensitivities in children with Selective Mutism (SM) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), under the guidance of Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum.
