Much of the research on Selective Mutism is based on subjective findings with few participants. What is needed are objective studies with a large database of participants.

The Selective Mutism Anxiety Research and Treatment Center (SMart Center) in collaboration with the Selective Mutism Group Childhood Anxiety Network (SMG~CAN) is committed to performing and disseminating information on Selective Mutism treatment options, new scientific advances, and research studies.

We encourage all families to participate in these studies, so that we can gain greater understanding of Selective Mutism and help disseminate this information to the professionals who work with our children.
